Region Noord (North) is characterised by the extensive Wadden Sea area with its many sandbanks and gullies. The ever-shifting character of the fairways and the shallows therefore make the navigation and manoeuvring of ships particularly difficult. Loodswezen offers a major contribution to ensuring that shipping traffic in the ports of Harlingen, Delfzijl, Eemshaven, Den Helder and Lauwersoog runs smoothly and safely, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Our experienced pilots have been trained to such an extent that they can find the safe routes in this treacherous area in all weathers.
